Raw Culture, Aberdeen’s first commercial kombucha brewery, has won the coveted Best New Product award at the North East Scotland Food & Drink Awards 2022. The win marks their first business award and comes less than a year after the launch of their first product line.

Chris Geary and Ashley Keenon launched Raw Culture as a response to the growing demand for functional soft drinks and alcohol-free alternatives in Aberdeen with their range of hop-infused kombucha. Their brew is 100% natural, made from water kombucha culture that take on flavours from their own hand-selected varieties of hops.

Raw Culture currently offers four different flavours including The Original, Hopical Punch, Mangosaurus, and Lemondrop which is perfect for your gut health thanks to its high probiotic count.

Raw Culture’s win marks their first business award and ties in with their move into a new base of production.

The win marks Raw Culture’s first business award and comes just ten months after their product launch in August 2021. The company has been growing steadily since then, with plans to launch another product line later in the year.

“We are thrilled to have won the Best New Product Award and are very grateful for all of our loyal customers who have helped us get where we are today,” said founder and director Chris Geary. “It is especially exciting when you see all the hard work paying off.” added co-director Ashley Keenon.

“Raw Culture is still a young company with our first products hitting the shelves less than 12 months ago. We are absolutely delighted to win an award that recognises our contribution to the Scottish food and drink industry.”

Raw Culture was founded by friends, Chris Geary and Ash Keenon, former oil and gas colleagues. In early 2020 they decided to go into business together, as they identified a gap in the UK market for Kombucha which has seen huge market growth in the United States in recent years. “We wanted to make things from scratch using natural ingredients, the idea was to treat the Kombucha like an IPA and use different hop varieties to create different flavour profiles across our range. What we ended up with was far better than we had imagined. “So we started making fermented drinks such as kombucha tea which is lower in sugar than traditional soda and supports gut health.”

“We are proud that our Kombucha is 100% natural – it’s a great tasting sparkling tea-based soft drink that’s packed with B-vitamins, antioxidants, and is rich in gluconic and acetic acid which is great for your gut health.”
