The health benefits of kombucha

School may be out for summer but let’s share a lesson uncovering the health benefits of kombucha.

The Raw Culture story all started when founders Ash and Chris sat down to chat all things homebrewing and fermented drinks. Chris was a keen homebrewer at the time and Ash was no stranger to fermented drinks after drinking them to manage his Crohn’s disease over the years. It wasn’t long until they got onto the topic of kombucha and Raw Culture was born.

There’s lots to be said for kombucha – and that’s just all its health benefits. Read on to explore the benefits of drinking kombucha.

What is kombucha?

In short, kombucha is a fizzy fermented tea. There are many different recipe combinations but at its core is tea, water, sugar and a kombucha culture (an essential part of the mix). The Raw Culture recipe is infused with hops and botanicals which give it a distinct and refreshing taste.

With its many health qualities, it’s no surprise that kombucha has been on the climb over the past couple of years although kombucha is far from new.

The first batch of kombucha was made in North-east China and dates all the way back to 220 B.C. It became well known for its healing properties and takes its name from Dr Kombu who introduced the drink to Japan as a curative for Emperor Inkyo.

What are the health benefits of kombucha?

Physical and mental wellbeing is a priority at Raw Culture and its kombucha fuses natural ingredients to add to a healthy lifestyle.

The range of four flavours is 100% gluten free and alcohol free making it a perfect soft drink choice for social occasions or on the go. Here’s everything you need to know about its health properties.

Supporting good gut health

Kombucha is rich in B-vitamins, antioxidants and can include beneficial bacteria which all work together to support good digestion and gut health (1). Better yet, it’s been found that improved digestion can strengthen your immune system, improve mood and keep your body in check (2).

Low in sugar

Kombucha offers a low sugar alternative (3) to other soft drinks brands. Sugar may be a key ingredient in the kombucha recipe however it reduces through the fermentation process.

When that sugar craving hits, grab a can of our kombucha and see those cravings caged. Speaking of cages, the Mangosaurus with plenty of juicy mango gives that sweet hit.

Low in caffeine

Looking for that energy boost without the crash? Kombucha is your answer.

A can of Raw Culture kombucha contains anywhere between 8mg to 15mg of caffeine per serving (depending on your can of choice) where a regular coffee contains about 95mg or above of caffeine (4). Safe to say, Raw Culture kombucha won’t keep you up at night but it may fill your dreams…

Energy booster

The ingredients used provide a natural source of energy (5) rather than relying on caffeine and sugars to give you that boost to see you through the day.

Natural flavours

The signature blend of hand selected hops and botanicals meet natural ingredients to create Raw Culture’s vitalising kombucha.

Close attention is paid to the ingredients that go into the kombucha recipe so every customer knows exactly what is going into their body. Raw Culture works with Jenier World of Teas who provide the high quality tea which is flavoured with 100% natural ingredients and doesn’t contain any synthetic solvents, carriers or preservatives (6).

There’s no exam to sit at the end of this lesson but with all that information to hand, you’ll be up to speed with the health benefits of kombucha.
